Ancaman pemerintah Thailand itu keluar selagi ke-21 negara anggota Komite Pusaka Dunia UNESCO bersiap melakukan voting atas proposal baru oleh Kamboja untuk mengelola kuil Khmer berumur 900 tahun itu.

Thailand selama ini telah melobi negara-negara anggota Komite untuk menunda voting sampai kedua negara menyelesaikan sengketa perbatasan mengenai lahan disekitar kuil Preah Vihear.

Jurubicara pemerintah Thailand, Panitan Wattanayagorn, mengatakan menteri sumberdaya alam Thailand hadir dalam pertemuan UNESCO itu di Brazil. Ia mengatakan menteri itu mendapat dukungan penuh Kabinet Thailand untuk mundur dari Komite Pusaka Dunia.

Ketegangan di perbatasan Thailand dan Kamboja marak bulan Juli 2008 setelah UNESCO menyatakan kuil itu sebagai tempat Pusaka Dunia dibawah wewenang Kamboja.

 

 

 

 

Karzai Ragukan Kesediaan Koalisi Serang Sarang Teroris di Pakistan

Presiden Afghanistan Hamid Karzai meragukan kesediaan mitra koalisinya negara-negara Barat untuk bertindak di tempat-tempat perlindungan teroris di negara tetangganya, Pakistan.

Karzai hari Kamis mengatakan, perang melawan terorisme “bukan di rumah dan desa Afghanistan”, melainkan di tempat perlindungan dan pusat pelatihan di luar negara itu.

Pemimpin Afghanistan itu memberitahu para wartawan di Kabul bahwa hanya pasukan internasional yang punya kemampuan menangani pasukan pemberontak semacam itu.

Komentar Presiden Karzai itu dikemukakan setelah situs Internet WikiLeaks merilis ribuan dokumen rahasia militer Amerika yang menuduh badan intelijen Pakistan secara aktif berkolaborasi dengan militan Taliban Afghanistan. Pakistan menepis tuduhan-tuduhan tersebut.

Jurubicara Departemen Luar Negeri Pakistan Abdul Basit mengatakan pernyataan Karzai itu tidak dapat dipahami. Menurutnya, duta besar Pakistan di Kabul meminta penjelasan dengan mengemukakan kedua negara bertetangga telah erat memerangi terorisme.

Jurubicara Presiden Karzai, Sediq Sediqqi, kemudian mengatakan pernyataan pemimpin Afghanistan sewaktu jumpa pers Kamis mengenai negara-negara sekutu Afghanistan telah disalah-tafsirkan oleh wartawan.
